Our students are part of a safe, educationally demanding environment, where great teachers support and inspire them. We are off to a great start since opening in August 2015. We began with Transitional Kindergarten (TK), Kindergarten and First Grade. Each year we will add one new grade, until we offer TK-12. All students who apply are admitted, subject to available space. As we are chartered by the State of California as a public charter school, there are no fees or expenses for parents. Our funding comes from the state and private donations.
The enrollment process for the fall 2017-spring 2018 school year will begin in January 2017. All applicant names will be entered in a lottery, which will take place in March 2017. Per California State regulations, all applications received before the closing deadline will be numbered, regardless of the time of submission. OnePurpose staff will mix these numbers and pull at random. Those numbers chosen will be offered placement, while the rest will be moved to a waitlist. Families that decline placement at OnePurpose will forfeit their spot, and the waitlist families will be contacted.
Students currently enrolled at OnePurpose are guaranteed placement each year. Siblings of current OnePurpose students are guaranteed a place as well.
We believe every child can thrive in an environment that supports curiosity, effort and engagement. The positive effects of meeting rigorous academic and ethical standards can redefine their opportunities. An education that teaches students to think critically, communicate effectively, and analyze intelligently is one that equips students for lifelong success.
Students who enjoy learning learn the most. In that spirit, as we expand over the next years we will focus on literacy, STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) and art. All students will learn Spanish. And through a pathway to successful learning, students will develop the qualities critical for success: teamwork, persistence, curiosity, self-control, gratitude, optimism and responsibility. The result will be students prepared to attend and graduate from college.
OUR RANGE OF SERVICES
In addition to a rigorous academic program, OnePurpose offers before and after school care as well as free breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are also able to support students who need counseling and emotional support, services that can be essential to put children with challenging home situations on a path to education and success in life.
Students who are supported at home and in their community do better, achieve more and are happier at school. We encourage the involvement of parents and see parents highly involved through monthly parent-teacher check-ins and participation in field trips and student exhibitions held at the end of the fall and spring semesters.
