Late November provides us with an opportunity to pause and reflect upon the spirit of this season. We are three months into the school year and while time seems to have a speed of its own, OnePurpose School continues to light the path for our students, families and school community.
Thanksgiving Day often catalyzes reflection and expressions of gratitude. The Board at OnePurpose School would like to share what is in our hearts and minds at this holiday time. We are incredibly grateful for what OnePurpose has achieved through the work of our staff, students and families. Some highlights include:
- 68% increase in enrollment from Year 1 to Year 2
- 80% of our Kindergarteners reading at grade level
- 99% return of our teachers from Year 1
- Incredibly high parent engagement and satisfaction (4.7 on a 5-point scale on the most recent survey)
These are truly remarkable results from a truly remarkable community. Undoubtedly, the metrics are more than enough to inspire us all to continue working in our roles.
If you work in education, Thanksgiving often means you are thankful for the break in the schedule and the chance to take a few days to rest and restore. We are truly grateful for our brilliant, talented, caring and dedicated faculty. Our appreciation for them goes far beyond the traditional “thank you” because of the special nature of work here at OnePurpose and the extraordinary efforts of these amazing educators.
For our students and families, Thanksgiving can often mean a time to pause from the pace of their lives and reconnect with loved ones. We are grateful for their presence, commitment and effort to share our common purpose for their scholars and this community. Even with the strides our school has made in less than two years, we know that it takes a tremendous amount of courage and faith to be a pioneer in a new school. Moreover, OnePurpose would not be OnePurpose without the amazing energy and engagement of our families. We are grateful for their dedication and look forward with enthusiasm to what we will accomplish together on behalf of our incredible children.
The end of this week will bring a few days rest from school, but this entire month has been (and will continue to be) dominated with the tension of the recent U.S. Presidential election and its aftermath. No matter what side of the political divide you land, two realities confront all of us.
First, November 9th started the real work for our country to reconnect under the principles of our democracy. This bruising election caused many to question their faith in politicians and the political process, between nasty rhetoric and questionable policies and challenging questions about ethics and judgment. But America is nothing apart from her deep and enduring ideals and that is part of what drives us at OnePurpose. To paraphrase the Declaration of Independence, “All our [children] were created equal and endowed with certain unalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” All of which depend upon OnePurpose students receiving an amazing education. Our commitment to these principles remains steadfast in the face of politics.
Second, despite the calls for national unity, many remain frightened by, and skeptical of, future policies that could impact millions of lives. We are fortunate to live in a community with principles and resources and will use both to educate and support our students and families, no matter their station or status. Few things seem more American, and we are grateful to be clear in our purpose as part of the present and future of this country.
Please join us in the spirit of gratitude and we wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
